Carlos Rubén is a charismatic Spanish winemaker who blossoms completely when you talk to him about his favorite grape: garnacha. Born and raised in Aragon, he almost literally has garnacha running through his veins. His faith in this beautiful grape sent him on a 'Camino del Garnacha'. He has made about 13 grenache wines from different grenache terroirs in order to let the voice of 'La Garnacha' speak.
]]>You can also find Grenache in the Rhône and the French border regions with Spain. Garnacha's roots are in Aragon, so its history is also linked to that of the famous medieval kingdom. Garnacha, for example, also found a home in Sardinia under the flag of the Crown of Aragon, where it is not called Garnacha but Cannonau. The Italians wouldn't be the Italians if they didn't claim the exchange was reversed and Cannonau was first. Who knows, we like them both.
The Garnacha family is very extensive. You have white, red and gray Grenache. It is a very versatile grape, because you can make still red, white and rosé wine with it, you will find them in sweet or very dry varieties and it is also a permitted grape in Cava.

A little history lesson.
]]>Let's brush something off the table right away. Syrah and Shiraz is the same. Shiraz is the name for Syrah that is mainly used in the New World. When Syrah arrived in Australia from its native region in the Northern Rhone, Aussie winemakers called it Shi-raz. Why? Because their French was bad? Or maybe just because Australians tend to make words sound juicier.
Since then, the different names have been used to indicate a difference in style. For example, winemakers will call a Rhône-style Shiraz "Syrah." These wines often have a more exciting structure and come from a cooler climate, making them spicier and less fruit-driven than the cozy and full-bodied Shiraz from a warmer climate.
