Hoenshof Rood is a Belgian red blend of dornfelder, cabaret noir, cabernet cantor. The wine is made by winery Hoenshof in Borgloon.
Wijndomein Hoenshof is managed by Prof. dr. Dr. Ghislain Houben and his son Jeroen. No fewer than 30 different grape varieties grow on their domain, which father and son like to experiment with and they do it well! The domain has already received several medals.
Two of the three grape varieties (cabernet noir and cabernet cantor) are recently developed grapes that can grow well in climates such as Belgium. The grapes for this wine first ripen for 3 weeks with the skins so that the wine gets a dark color. They are then aged for a while in barrels, separately for grape variety and plot.
TASTE PROFILE: Hoenshof Rood is a strong and powerful red wine. The blend provides a nice balance between red fruit (raspberry, blueberry and cherry), spiciness and lighter notes of white pepper, black tea and dark chocolate.
This wine goes perfectly with roasted game, cheese and charcuterie.
